22 Jan 2021, 04:13 GMT+10

Proteas women stars Mignon du Preez, Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon and Lizelle Lee have signed up to play in this year's The Hundred.

The new 100-balls-per-side format was postponed to 2021 after the coronavirus pandemic delayed the tournament's inaugural start.

The Hundred will take place in the English summer in July and feature eight city-based teams from Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Southampton and two in London.

A men's and women's squad will be formed for each team, with the competitions running alongside each other.

All players, who signed to play in the 2020 women's edition of The Hundred, will be given the opportunity to roll-over their contracts to 2021.

Each team will select the rest of its squad of 15 and teams can sign a maximum of three overseas players.

On Tuesday, the Hundred revealed four Proteas stars, who have put pen to paper to play in The Hundred this year.

Manchester Originals have confirmed the signing of with South African batting duo Lee and Du Preez.

Lee stated that she hopes that The Hundred will boost the ongoing popularity of the women's game.

"I've got some fantastic memories of playing in England both internationally and in the Kia Super League and I can't wait to take part in The Hundred later this year for Manchester Originals," said Lee in a press statement.

"It's really exciting to be playing in a new competition and I think it's a great opportunity to continue to grow the women's game."

Proteas all-rounder Kapp will join the Oval Invincibles and stated that she is looking forward to 100-ball tournament.

"The Kia Oval is a fantastic place to play cricket and I'm really looking forward to playing for Oval Invincibles there. We've got a great group of players and I'm hoping we can go all the way in the competition."

London Spirit secured the talent of all-rounder Tryon, who will represent her side at Lord's this summer. Tryon is currently recovering from a lower-back injury, which ruled her out of the Proteas' ongoing limited-series against Pakistan.
