Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for at least four men who attacked a man on a farm between Middelburg and Stofberg.

Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the attackers broke into the farmhouse, tied up the man and assaulted him.

They also robbed him of household items and an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.

"The victim's employee found him still tied up with injuries. The police, as well as the paramedics, were notified and the man was taken to hospital for medical treatment," Mdhluli said.

Netwerk24 identified the victim as Dirk Buys, who is believed to be about 70 years old. Buys reportedly sustained serious head injuries. Two men apparently sat on Buys and beat him while the other two emptied his home.

Mdhluli urged anyone with information that can assist in apprehending the attackers to contact Detective Colonel David Seimela on 082 556 5752 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

"Members of the public can also send the information via the My SAPS app, which can be downloaded to any smartphone. All information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous."
