South Africa's top-ranked tennis player, Lloyd Harris, is through to the second round of the French Open after beating Australia's Alexei Popyrin on Tuesday.
Harris, the world No 96, beat the 108th-ranked Popyrin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (9/7) in their first round encounter at Roland Garros.
The 23-year-old Capetonian fired 17 aces and 45 winners, compared to seven aces and 33 winners from his Australian counterpart.
Harris faces a tough hurdle in the next round against seventh-seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini, who beat Canada's Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.
Also on Tuesday, South Africa's Kevin Anderson opens his account against Serbian world No 72 Laslo Djere.
Anderson, a former world No 5 but currently ranked No 118, won his only previous ATP Tour encounter against Djere 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (8/6) at a hardcourt event in Pune, India last year.
Meanwhile, South African doubles ace Raven Klaasen and Austrian partner Oliver Marach are up against the unseeded French duo, Benjamin Bonzi and Antoine Hoang.
Klaasen and Marach are the 10th seeds.
